Private Lessons
Our Private Learn to Swim classes provide a supportive, personalised and encouraging environment for children of all swimming abilities, with a particular focus on supporting swimmers who may benefit from additional individual attention, including neurodiverse children and children with additional needs.
We understand that every child learns differently. For some swimmers, traditional group lessons can feel overwhelming, distracting or difficult to navigate. A private lesson provides a quieter, more predictable environment where our teachers can take the time to understand each child, build trust and create an approach that works for them.
Whether your child has never swum before, is developing confidence in the water, needs additional support with a particular skill, or is working towards a specific swimming goal, lessons are tailored around their individual abilities, needs and learning style.
A number of our teachers have experience and training in supporting neurodiverse swimmers and children with additional needs. We understand that communication, sensory needs, attention, confidence and the way a child learns can all impact their experience in the water.
Our teachers work with each child to understand what helps them feel safe, comfortable and ready to learn. This may involve adapting the way instructions are given, allowing additional time to process information, using visual demonstrations, breaking skills into smaller steps, incorporating repetition and routine, or adjusting the lesson when a child is having a particularly challenging day.
We recognise that progress isn't always a straight line. Our teachers are patient and flexible, working with the child rather than expecting the child to fit a particular teaching style. We take the time to build relationships and celebrate the small wins along the way.
We also value working closely with parents and carers, as you know your child best. Sharing what works at home, what your child responds well to, and any strategies that help them feel comfortable allows our teachers to create a more meaningful and successful learning experience.
Private lessons are predominantly offered on a 1:1 basis, allowing our teachers to provide focused attention and adapt each lesson to suit your child's ability, confidence and learning style. We also offer 1:2 private lessons for siblings of a similar swimming level.
While lessons are personalised around your child's individual goals, students continue to follow our Swim and Survive Program. This ensures they continue progressing through their swimming levels while developing essential water safety and survival skills.
Our teachers can create an individual lesson plan that balances your child's personal goals with the skills required to progress through their swimming level. Whether the focus is on developing independent swimming, improving a particular skill, becoming more comfortable in the water, or building essential water safety skills, we work at a pace that is appropriate for your child.
As a small, private swim school, we offer a quieter environment away from the busy public. For some children, this reduced level of noise, movement and distraction can make a significant difference to their ability to feel comfortable and engage in their lesson.
Most importantly, we want every child to feel that they belong in the water.
Our goal is to create a swimming experience where children feel safe, understood, supported and successful. By taking the time to understand each swimmer as an individual, we can help them develop not only their swimming and water safety skills, but also the confidence to enjoy being in and around water.
